The Neighborhood Recovery Initiative (NRI) was created by Governor Quinn in October 2010. The initiative is implemented in 23 neighborhoods in Chicago and the suburbs through IVPA (Illinois Violence Prevention Authority). The goal of the NRI is to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors associated with violence through a wide range of community-based services for youth and young adults including: social, emotional and job skill development; case management, trauma-informed counseling for students in need of early intervention; mentoring; reentry services; and tutoring and other school supports that enhance young people’s ability to succeed in school, in their community and in life.

As one of the lead agencies for the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, ALSO is partnering with community organizations and providers in offering vital services to children, youth, and families in Logan Square.

Mentoring Plus Jobs (Spring 2012)

Provide 80 youth in Logan Square with part-time jobs as peer educators, increasing their communication skills and engaging them in an exchange of ideas with citizens in the community at various locations and events.

Parent Leadership in Action Network (PLAN) (Spring 2012)

Hires 50 parents in Logan Square in part-time jobs designed to develop their leadership skills while engaging them in becoming educators and mentors for other parents in the community.

School-based Counseling

Counselors from partner agencies will provide school-based early intervention and trauma-informed counseling services for students at the following Logan Square schools: Ames, Darwin, Funston, Goethe, Monroe, Pulaski and Yates.

Reentry

Increase reentry services for youth and young adults returning to the Logan Square community from youth and adult correctional facilities. Case managers will support the individual and their families in accessing services such as educational programs, healthcare, and housing.
